PEF Contribution

• PEF is bringing City Year’s successful American model to the UK and has assembled a coalition of private-sector funders to support City Year’s pilot programme in London’s Shoreditch from 2009, with a view to broader scale-up across London and beyond.
• City Year London’s model aligns with PEF’s mission on two fronts: it supports children in primary schools to learn and achieve, and also engages the older, target NEET group in volunteering.

Introducing the Charity

City Year brings together young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. Young people, known as “corps members”, serving with City Year spend ten months;

• working in schools as tutors, mentors and role models;
• leading in-school and after-school programmes and community projects; and
• receiving training and support linked to both their service in schools and leadership after City Year.

City Year was founded on the belief that young people can change the world.
