Get involved

For those of you already missing the thrills and spills of this summer of football we’re giving you the opportunity to take part in an extra tournament on 6 October 2010 with a World Cup theme.  As reigning champions, Apax are the team to beat and only time will tell whether, unlike the Italians, they can successfully defend their title.

In other news, to mark the 2,500th anniversary of the marathon, 250 people from the Private Equity community, in association with Campbell Lutyens, are gathering in Athens on 31 October 2010 to follow in Greek messenger Pheidippides’ footprints.

PEF will be a beneficiary and one of our Trustees, Nikos Stathopoulos from BC Partners, is taking part.  Updating us on his training programme, Nikos said:

“I’m slowly getting ready for the marathon, and aiming to run about 10 miles each week, although I’ll run more the closer the marathon gets. I haven't yet changed my eating habits, and can’t bring myself to aim for a time. I’d be happy just to get to the finishing line! It’s a great event, which aside from raising valuable funds for young people also has some sentimental value to me, as I was born in Athens.”

We wish Nikos and his team mates all the best in the run up to the event.

Finally, the PEF Conference, which is being organised in partnership with Demos, has been scheduled for 16 September at the Coin Street Conference Centre in London. It will ask how future policy can confront the NEET issue, with special attention being paid to Demos’ recent publication, Ex Curricula, which argues that early intervention is key to future policy-making.  Speakers will include Eleanor Mills of The Sunday Times, Sir Alan Steer, the ex-government schools behaviour tsar, and Graham Stuart MP, who is chairman of the Education Select Committee.
