The Full Potential Awards
Young Person Full Potential Award finalist Jude Greaves from PEF charity Community Links talks about his experience of the evening:
“It was a wonderful event for me and my mother to attend, since we haven't been to anything quite like it. I was able to meet the other nominees which I found inspiring, as we exchanged thoughts, ideas and ambitions. The whole dining experience was new to me, but I enjoyed it.
“As I watched the charity presentations I was happy to see how much was being done for those of a less privileged background like myself, and that opportunities for people both young and old were being supported even in such a financially difficult time.
“It truly goes to show there is always hope where there is effort.”
Jude's story
Jude is 19 and has lived on the Rokeby Estate, E15, since he lost his natural father, when he was just 6.
He only has bad memories of the old green, like youths torching cars, and his mum had to literally drag him to the new Community Links community centre, funded by PEF.
Before he set foot inside the building, he’d had dreams but no self belief and kept himself to himself but since that moment he hasn’t looked back.
Jude became a volunteer and is now a paid youth worker at the centre. His great love is dancing and with Community Links’ support he has become a dance teacher, taking weekly classes at the facility. He has formed his own dance school, Streetz on da Green, and his work means that he’s now funding himself through university, where he’s studying music.
Without the opportunities provided by Community Links’ centre, he would still be uncertain about his future, shy and without aspirations. Instead, he's passing on his new belief that everyone has something to offer.
