15.06.11: ThinkForward - a sneak preview

Every young person makes a critical journey from school towards employment. Many need support. Those most at risk require a dedicated support system for their journey to adulthood.

The Private Equity Foundation, Ernst & Young, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Islington local authorities and local schools have joined forces to develop a unique initiative providing young people in disadvantaged communities with the support they need to move from education to employment.

  • One in five young people are unemployed, compared with one in twelve adults
  • One in five of the class of 2011 will leave school and not enter education, training and employment (NEET)

The initiative begins on our doorstep: Shoreditch. Shoreditch has a 21% higher NEET rate than the rest of the country and 75% of children live in poverty. ThinkForward Shoreditch will provide:

  • A highly trained coach providing bespoke support
  • One to one support for five years from aged 14 to 19
  • A personal action plan
  • A workplace mentor, providing business networks and work opportunities
