19.10.10: Tom Attwood joins PEF Board

Tom Attwood, a Managing Director of Intermediate Capital Group PLC (ICG), has been appointed to the Board of the Private Equity Foundation (PEF). Alongside existing Trustees, he will support the industry initiative as it continues to evolve and expand its role, helping more disadvantaged NEET (not in education, employment or training) young people and those who are at risk of becoming NEET.

Tom helped the founders launch ICG in 1989; later he was appointed to the Board of Directors as a non-executive in June 1993 before becoming a full time Managing Director in April 1996. He is the Chairman of both the Executive Committee and the Board of Intermediate Capital Managers Limited, ICG's fund management company. Prior to joining ICG, Tom was a director of James Capel & Co and was responsible for the growth of their IPO business.

Tom Attwood said "The best investment we can make is in the next generation and I've taken an interest in PEF's exceptional work to help more young people realise their potential since its inception. Our generation has been unusually negligent in investing in our children's generation and there is much to do.

"My involvement has already shown me the difference that the private equity community's pro bono skills and money are making to PEF's portfolio of youth charities and I'm delighted that I'm now in a position to become more 'hands on'. Without PEF's contribution to their infrastructure these organisations simply wouldn't be in a position to provide so many of the poorest children and young people with the vital literacy, numeracy, mental health or practical support they need to make a success of their lives."

Welcoming Tom Attwood, Shaks Ghosh, Chief Executive of PEF, said "Tom's addition to PEF's Board will bring new experience and insights into how the industry's skills can be further channeled into changing more young lives for the better. With the most recent figures showing a five per cent surge in youth unemployment rates and public funding cuts imminent, there is no shortage of work to be done if we're to make sure that today's children and young people aren't destined to become a lost generation. Please get in touch if you too would like to become involved."
